Charlotte FC will be participating in the annual 91¿ì»îÁÖ×îаæ SuperDraft 2022 presented by adidas tomorrow, January 11th. As the only participating expansion team, Charlotte will receive the number one pick of the draft.
The 91¿ì»îÁÖ×îаæ SuperDraft is similar to other American drafts as an opportunity for 91¿ì»îÁÖ×îаæ teams to acquire top collegiate talent. The SuperDraft is another resource to help 91¿ì»îÁÖ×îаæ teams increase their depth with talented young players that can contribute right at the start or be developed for the future.
This year, the SuperDraft will consist of three total rounds with 28 picks in each round representing the total amount of teams in the league. Charlotte FC will pick first overall, followed by reverse order of teams that missed the 2021 Audi 91¿ì»îÁÖ×îаæ Cup Playoffs and then teams in order of elimination from playoffs. While the jump from collegiate soccer to 91¿ì»îÁÖ×îаæ is a big step, the SuperDraft has shown in recent years that key players can be found.
A handful of top collegiate underclassmen are signed every year by 91¿ì»îÁÖ×îаæ to contracts, a joint program between the league and adidas. These contracts are not charged against the annual salary budget of 91¿ì»îÁÖ×îаæ teams to encourage the development of young college players.
This year’s Generation adidas class consists of the following eight players:
